The Pursuit of Love and Happiness

Everyone longs to be loved, and, if you're like me, you can find yourself frustrated with failed relationships that don't really deliver the kind of dream you hoped for. I've been through rejection and divorce and it can make a person feel pretty unloveable and hopeless, wondering if God even still cares, why He would let me go through this. But, He didn't forget about me. He has been pursuing me, bringing me back to Him and He can do the same for you.

As a Christian, I can look at God's Word and see what he has to say and His view brings a ton of hope. He says we are valuable, precious, loved, that He wants to heal the brokenhearted, that He has plans of hope for us and that He can bring something good from even rejection and loss. He even understands because He's been through it.

We are valuable

"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)
"You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it." (Psalm 139:13-14)

We can be healed

How to let God help you

God really does want to help me and you, but it's easy to get in His way and cause ourselves needless hurt. It was easy for me to get angry at God and angry at other people, and anger is a natural emotion, but dwelling on it for a long time was doing nothing but causing me more grief. God, on the other hand, longs for us to turn to Him and seek His help.

The things that you and I have done that are wrong separate us from God. (See Isaiah 59:2) There is hope now because Christ came to this earth and He died on the cross to pay for every wrong thing I did and every wrong thing you and every other human did (See Isaiah 53:5-6). Now we can be close to God and forgiven. We accept God’s gift of forgiveness simply by placing our faith in Christ alone for the forgiveness of our wrongdoings (See Ephesians 2:8-9). Would you like to enter a relationship with your Creator by trusting in Christ as your Savior? If so, here’s a simple prayer you can use to express your faith:

Dear God,
I know that my sin has put a barrier between You and me. Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to die in my place. I trust in Jesus alone to forgive my sins, and I accept His gift of eternal life. I ask Jesus to be my personal Savior and the Lord of my life. Thank You. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Once you've accepted Christ's free gift, you have a relationship with Him and with God. There's a lot you can do to help yourself grow and heal. When we pray, read the Bible, thank God and try to do what He says, we help God help us.

Does God Really Give Us the Desires of Our Hearts?

CBN.com – Does God truly give you the desires of your heart? As a single have you ever asked the question, "If God gives me the desires of my heart, why am I still single?" Of all the questions I've been asked, this is probably the number one question. To understand this Scripture fully, it's important to put it in context.

"Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him…" (Psalm 37:5-7a, NIV).

Today, if you're struggling in your singleness, don't lose heart. These verses are key in helping you with your frustration of being single. Is your delight, your joy, in the Lord? This is vital for anyone to have true joy.

The first twenty years of my life I put much of my joy in my boyfriends. My mood swings went from high to low depending on how a relationship was going. I later realized my joy was in a man, not in my relationship with the Lord.

Our delight must be first in the Lord. It must be priority in our lives.

Second, are you "trusting in Him and doing good?" Countless singles are doing their own thing, not trusting in Him, much less doing good. Many are dating unbelievers and choosing an impure lifestyle.

God says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" (Matthew 5:8). If you want a blessed life then it must be a pure life.

Later in these verses David writes, "Commit your way to the Lord and trust in Him." Continue to tell the Lord you want His way, not your way. Never ever try to make a relationship happen. Far too many singles are doing this only to end up heartbroken.

We are also commanded to be still and to wait on Him. Waiting is a difficult thing to do. At times it gets long and it may seem too hard. Often singles cannot endure the waiting and they rush into a wrong marriage. Wait. Keep waiting. Don't rush.

My friend, if you are truly delighting in Him, trusting in Him, committing your way to Him, and waiting on Him, yes, He will give you the desires of your heart. Scripture tells us He will. But God's timing may not be your timing.

Have you come to the end of yourself and truly asked the Lord to change your desires if they're not His desires? I have done this in my own life. Today I'm still single, but never thought I could be happy if I was not married. My desires have changed. If the Lord brings me a husband, then I feel quite sure my desires will change again.

The key to the Christian life, single or married, is trusting and obeying. How very, very true the famous hymn writer was when he penned the words "Trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey" (John H. Sammis).

I'm not saying it's easy. I'm not saying there will not be times of loneliness. I'm not saying that you don't ever wonder why you're still single. But I am saying you will never ever be sorry for trusting, obeying, and waiting on the Lord.

Does God give you the desires of your heart? Yes, and even more. It may be different plans or desires than you ever thought you wanted. He has extraordinary plans when you simply put Him first in your life.

"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen" (Ephesians 3:20-21, NASB).

Cat attacking the paper towels

So my cat, Grace, has taken a liking to attacking the paper towels that hang under the kitchen cupboards. Do you have a similar problem with your cat?

Here's what I'm trying.

One approach that seems to help is putting aluminum foil over the paper towels at night. Grace seems to like to get into mischief when I'm sleeping. The only downside is that I can't get to the paper towels.

Another idea that helped somewhat is putting a folded in half paper bag over the paper towels so I can get to them from the underside but she can't attack them as well. It worked for a few days, she figured out how to get underneath them and attack but it slows her down.

When I can catch Grace, clapping twice and saying down firmly stops her temporarily.

If nothing else, I've learned spraying a cat with a water bottle is always a good method of training them not to do something.

The last resort will be hiding the paper towels in a cupboard where she can't get to them. In the meantime, this is great entertainment.

It's amazing how the little things you do can make such a difference in someone else's life. I discovered a charity by Franklin Graham (Billy Graham's son) a few years ago that has a Christmas Gift Catalog that is pretty cool. Making a difference

The radio station I listen to, KLove, has been talking about things people do to make a difference in this world. Some of the ideas people come up with are inspirational. KLove held a contest and the winner was a young woman who shaved her head to raise money for kids with cancer. I love that girl's boldness!

I'm also inspired by the people who give food to children who otherwise wouldn't eat on weekends because of poverty. So many little things can make such a difference in someone's life. An encouraging word, a hug, even paying for coffee or food for the person behind you in line or at the drive thru.

Sometimes things you see everyday are great inspiration. I've seen the greek key design on so many things and finally decided it would make a great ring. I hand forged this ring from sterling silver wire by simply bending the wire with my hand and a pair of bent nose pliers.
The ring was then work hardened using a ball peen hammer and a steel ring mandrel.

How to Set Up Sales Tax in Etsy

Etsy is unveiling a new feature in their checkout allowing sellers to apply their state sales tax to the checkout. It starts Thursday, August 28th. For some time, people will be able to checkout using both the old and new checkouts and this sales tax will only apply to the *new* checkout. Paypal has had this feature for some time, I recommend setting it up in both Paypal and Etsy.

To set sales tax rates in Etsy:
1. Go to http://www.etsy.com/your/taxsettings.
2. Select the U.S. state, Canadian province, or other country from the drop-down lists and click the Add Tax Rate button.
3. Enter the tax rate in the Tax Rate box.
4. Repeat for each additional U.S. state, Canadian province, or other country where you want to collect sales tax. If you want the rate to apply to shipping charges, check the box "Apply rate to shipping."
5. Click the Save button.

To set sales tax rates in Paypal:
1. Login at http://www.paypal.com
2. Click on the blue "Merchant Services" tab at the top of the page
3. Under Shipping & Tax, click on "Tax Calculator"
4. Under Set Up Domestic Sales Tax Rate, Click on "Add Sales Tax"
5. Select your state and type in the sales tax rate, then click Continue.

That's it! Once done, it should say "active" under the status

I'm still trying to figure that out most days! For those of you wondering who's behind this blog or Dazzled Beader Designs Jewelry, my name is Melissa. I've turned 29 a couple of times, but whose counting. I'm a graphic artist and enjoy many artistic hobbies. I started Dazzled Beader Designs jewelry after I had made quite a bit of jewelry for myself with a group of friends I met who formed a beaded jewelry making group. We talk and eat a bunch too but somewhere in there we manage to get some jewelry made. Anyway, after I had enough jewelry for myself, I decided it was time to put some of my creations up for sale.

I am currently being trained by a black and white tuxedo cat named Grace who destroys my paper towels and attacks my ankles. Grace was adopted from my cousin whose cat had recently had a litter, I saw Grace's picture and couldn't resist.

I'm also a Christian because God has never given up on me. He is the most persistent person I've ever met. I've been through some stuff, including divorce, and I've learned that He really does care. (And yes, I had my moments for awhile where it felt like He didn't care).

I'm fond of the czech glass too, it's coated with an aurora borealis coating which gives it a little extra lustre. How to satisfy your need for touch when there's no one to touch you

I found this online and I think with the divorce rate as high as it is, this is very timely and helpful advice:

If you are single, you know the feeling of wanting to be held, touched, cherished; that need for passionate touch, comforting touch, any kind of touch - and the suffering that results from having no one to give you that touch.

It's not so well-known that many married people and people in relationships also suffer from the unfulfilled need for touch, physical comfort and passion. Their story is different from that of singles, and the reasons for the absence of touch in their relationship may be varied, from a good relationship gone bad to health issues involving one of the spouses.

Most of us crave touch and can't live well without it. Having to live without can be excruciating. So what does a person do when there is nobody to meet the need for touch? You learn to satisfy some of your craving for touch for and by yourself.

The need for touch is very much like the need for food. You may satiate yourself for today, but tomorrow the need will arise again. Be prepared when the need arises daily. Pick a few suggestions below and practice them daily to keep your craving for touch at bay. Reducing your craving for touch will make it easier for you to make better relationship choices.

Speaking of cravings, here are things NOT to do to get your need for touch met:

* Do not hook up with an unavailable, married or otherwise involved person just because you need to be touched.

* Do not settle for a relationship or a partner you don't really want just to have someone who will touch you.

* Do not cheat to get your need for touch met.

If you do any of these, you will end up with a little fun and a little touch, and then a whole lot of headaches and love trouble. When the love trouble starts the touch will go away and you will be brokenhearted and without touch again.

Healthy ways to satisfy your need for touch:

1. Stimulate your skin

One of the things you are missing when you don't get enough touch is sensory stimulation of the skin. Help yourself to get more sensory stimulation by deliberately choosing the softest sheets, blankets and pillows, and very soft and even silky clothing. Pay attention to the objects that surround you throughout the day and see if you can make them specifically pleasing to touch.

2. Give yourself comfort and pleasure

Touch provides us with comfort and pleasure, and not just sexual pleasure. When you are not touched, it is hard to feel comforted and hard not to crave pleasure. To help, find ways to comfort yourself. Try a soothing cup of tea, a heart-centered meditation, listening to sweet music or reading poetry. Try going for a brisk walk to feel the pleasure of the sun or wind on your skin. Go for a swim to feel the pleasure of water on your skin. Walk barefoot in the grass to feel the softness of grass on your toes. You get the idea.

3. Get hugs and cuddles

Even when you don't have a lover to touch you, you still need to be hugged and cuddled - get a pet for this. Studies show that people with pets experience less stress. The act of petting an animal brings pleasure and provides a way to physically connect with a being that loves you. You could even take your pet to bed with you and cuddle it, especially if it's a puppy or a kitten.

4. Pay someone to touch you

No, not like that! Find a loving and safe masseur or masseuse and get a weekly massage. Many people resist going this route, as they feel uneasy having a stranger touch them. But if you find the right person, he or she will be able to comfort and nurture you in a respectful and fulfilling way. If money is an issue, call your local massage school and schedule an appointment at their clinic. At a school clinic you can get a great massage for about $25. If you like the person and help him or her build a practice, you may be able to get massages at that price for a very long time.

5. Give and get hugs

Hug and ask to be hugged by the people in your life. Hugs will help you get your need for touch met. Ask friends and family for hugs and give lots of hugs to your kids. Everyone will appreciate the extra touch, and everyone involved will be better off. (Needless to say, do not give hugs to folks who have not given you some level of permission to do so, and do not hug children you are not related to unless that child's parent explicitly approves.)

6. Touch yourself

Yes, that way too. But primarily give yourself a foot massage, a neck rub or a hand massage. Or climb into a bath and rub yourself all over with a loofa or a soft cloth.

7. Move your body

Exercise, dance, walk. Moving your body will heighten your endorphins, make you fit and help you feel good about your body. And moving simply feels good to the body. In the absence of touch, body pleasure is what you want to get more of.

8. Controversial ways to get your need for touch met

I have read about cuddle parties, where you meet with others to cuddle only, and where boundaries concerning other physical behaviors are specifically verbalized and respected. If that interests you, Google "cuddle parties" on your computer. Alternatively, you can get a cuddle buddy. A cuddle buddy would be someone with whom you would cuddle only. If you do find a cuddle buddy, be sure that both of you are very clear on what is and is not going to happen and how the two of you feel about each other.

Your need for touch is natural and normal. It will be great when you have someone wonderful in your life to hold, touch and love. Until that day, take care of your own need for physical touch using the suggestions above, and you will find yourself happier and less hungry for touch.

How to Ask Customers How They Found You In Paypal

I came across this very useful post by sassybellewares in the etsy forums, and thought I'd share it here.

Within PayPal, you can set up the payment page that buyers see during checkout so that a question is included asking buyers how they found you. You can then offer 5 responses to choose from (eg etsy search, google, facebook or twitter, word of mouth, other).

That information could be extremely valuable in helping you promote your shop more effectively!

Here are the instructions sassybellewares provided:
1) Login to your PayPal account
2) Under "my account" click "profile"
3) Under "selling preferences" click "custom payment pages", then click "options" and go to "merchant service options"
4) Check "add a customer service survey" and fill in the blanks*
5) Make sure you click "SAVE" before you exit

* I used "How did you find SassyBelleWares" for my question. I thought using my shop name rather than just "us" or "me" might help them remember my shop better for next time.

SEEING THE RESULTS:
1) Login to Paypal.com
2) You should be on your account page by default, if not click on the "my account" tab
3) Find a recent sale transaction and click on the blue underlined details link.
4) Scroll down and find where it says "payment type:" Right underneath that, it will show your paypal survey question "how did you find..." and the customer's response if the customer filled it out.

That's it! This is so cool and it's a such a great business tool. I was surprised to learn one of my customers found me on facebook considering I only post there on occasion and don't have that many fans.

Grace with an ATTITUDE

When I was going through a difficult time, I got the bright idea to adopt a puppy. What could be more wonderful than the unconditional love of a dog jumping on you and peeing on your carpet every night when you come home? Before that happened; however, I got a crazy idea. I was perusing through the humane society newsletter and saw some cats described as affectionate. It had never occurred to me that a cat could ever be affectionate. I always thought they had an attitude! So, I decided instead to adopt a cat. Very shortly afterwards, I got a mass email from my cousin looking for homes for a new litter of kittens. Here was my chance.

A few days later I was holding my new one pound kitten in my arms. I named her Grace after God's grace (unconditional love and favor) figuring surely a cute little fluffy animal is the epitome of unconditional love even moreso than some humans. So, I was a little surprised when my bundle of unconditional love insisted on attacking my fingers and toes. What did I get myself into? Over the years, I learned to appreciate Grace and her attitude. She may sing an enchanting melody of complaints when I pick her up against her will. She may run and hide sometimes. She may even try to hiss and bite. But she is unconditionally loving in her own way. I took her to the vet the other day and she was mad! (Keep in mind she has a reputation at the vet office, they even put a bright orange WILL BITE sticker on her folder). Grace made sounds at the vet that would make any brave soul flee. She did not like me very much after that. She ran and hid and would have nothing to do with me. Then, like nothing happened she came out and wanted to lay on my shoulder. She purred with contentment as she decided again that she loved me after all.

No matter how mad Grace gets, she always forgives me. That, to me, is a love worth adopting. The crazy thing is, it inspires me to love her back unconditionally. No matter how many times I get hissed at and nipped at, I always forgive her. I guess Grace really does live up to her name, after all.

My original idea had been to do a necklace with a mood pendant and a rainbow of crystals in the front with some clear going up, but then I saw how pretty a rainbow of Swarovski crystals looks all by itself.

I've been wanting to make a butterfly necklace out of wire for myself for quite some time. After much experimenting and wasted cheap plated wire, and a first attempt that was just too big, I made a design that I love. And then I made it again in silver, and then I made it a third time in silver so that I could keep one and sell one. :) If you like it, but want different colors/types of beads in that center, I would be happy to do that for you.

I looked high and low for affordable prices on 21 gauge sterling silver wire and here's a list of places I found. I'm offering this list since Google Analytics says a surprising amount of people arrived at my etsy shop trying to find 21 gauge wire.

Sometimes, Ebay doesn't have the best reputation among my fellow Etsy artists, especially since there are so many kind, hardworking people within the Etsy community who sell jewelry supplies that we all could be buying from instead of going to Ebay! However there are times when you can get a good deal on Ebay - just make sure you check the seller's rating and feedback out and compare prices to competitors first.

Viva LeChat - Great Shop for Pets All Around

When my brother's bengal cat had her 1st birthday, I got her a present from Viva LeChat's shop, a cute and well made catnip mouse that looked just like her! Korina was so thrilled with it.

The best part is, a third of the proceeds from these catnip mice goes to imom.org, an organization that raises money for low-income people who cannot otherwise afford needed vet expenses for their furry companions.

What You Can Do About Hairballs

There is no "cure" for hairballs, but there are some things that you can do to minimize the rate of regurgitation:

Groom your cat. The more hair you can get off your cat by brushing him, the less he will swallow. Brush your cat regularly, then wipe your kitty down with a damp cloth to remove hairs missed by the brush.

Hairball products . If the problem still exists, you can also use petroleum-based products (such as Laxatone) that act as a laxative and lubricant to facilitate the passage of matted hair through the intestine. These products, which are pleasant tasting to cats, can be fed in paste form or applied to your cat's paws to allow your pet to lick it off.

Hairball remedy treats or food . You can also give your cat treats containing mineral oil to break up the hairballs, such as Pounce® hairball treatment. Some pet food companies now manufacture food for cats with recurrent hair or fur ball problems. Ask your veterinarian what she or he recommends.

In my experience, the FURminator is one of the best tools on the market today for removing hair and dander from your cat's undercoat. FURminator gets way down into your cat's fur, through the topcoat and into the undercoat, to remove loose hair and dander. And you will be AMAZED to see how much hair it actually removes.
